HSE announces senior management changes
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has today confirmed that Kevin Myers will become Acting Chief Executive following the departure of Geoffrey Podger on 31 August. Gordon MacDonald, currently Director of Hazardous Installations, will become Acting Deputy Chief Executive as part of the changes.

A private consumer asked for detailed information (service and/or parts manual with parts listings) from the appliance manufacturer to assist with own repairs of own household appliances. The manufacturer claimed that H&S Regulations prevented them providing this information.
Housebuilder prosecuted for failing to fence off construction site
A South Wales housebuilder has been given a two year conditional discharge for repeatedly ignoring warnings to fence off a potentially dangerous construction site.

Case 185 – Church representative told enquirer to move pram because it was causing an obstruction and contravening fire safety regulations
A representative of a church told the enquirer to move his child’s pram because it was causing an obstruction to a procession, was contravening fire regulations and a health and safety risk. When the enquirer challenged the person concerned, she told him she was a health and safety officer.
Maintenance man prosecuted for illegal gas work
A 70 year-old self-employed maintenance worker has been fined for carrying out illegal gas work at a café and restaurant in St Austell, exposing customers and workers to the risk of injury.
